Over the course of my professional career, I have worked for a diverse range of employers from Native Title Representative Bodies, the Queensland Government and the private sector. Whilst in the Torres Strait, I worked on numerous native title claims that progressed to exclusive determinations of native title. As part of each determination, I negotiated registered Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) with respondent parties such as public utilities, GOC’s / Public Authorities and the Queensland Government. In my work for Queensland South Native Title Services, I rapidly progressed a number of claims to determination such as the Kalkadoon and Gungarri people native title determinations. In that role I also prepared two matters (Kalkadoon and Githabul #2) for trials in late 2010 and early 2011. In that role, I also gained valuable experience in developing alternative strategies to settle proceedings by agreements with pastoral, mining, resources and government parties. I have either acted for or conducted consultation with various stakeholders throughout Queensland building extensive professional contacts and relationships. In the post-determination environment, I have established and assisted many Native Title Bodies Corporate. My work within government and in the private and NGO sectors has involved policy development, legislative reform, tenure dealings and legal problem solving utilising Queensland’s property, land rights and cultural heritage legislation. In addition to claims resolution work, I have considerable experience in commercial legal work involving future act/cultural heritage compliance and associated agreement making. I have represented the Queensland Government, GOCs and private comanies in numerous negotiations with native title parties. I enjoy sharing my knwoledge and expertise, developing and delivering training regarding native title and cultural heritage compliance. I have also provided both policy and legal advice to the government, NGOs and Indigenous companies over capacity building, governance and cooperative resource management. I have assisted both Indigenous and non-Indigenous parties to ILUAs dealing with various matters such as tenure resolution, township expansion, infrastructure development and claims resolution. Included in particular ILUAs or as stand-alone documents, I have negotiated a range of agreements ensuring compliance with native title, cultural heritage, mining/resources and natural resource management legislation. Examples include the Nathan Dam ILUA and CHMPs (6), the Evolution Mining CHMP and agreements with Australian Gas Light Coimpany and Neoen .
